Training On Gender and Violence

Objective: To deepen understanding of gender issues, and to eliminate violence against women and girls.

Target group: students, teachers, community elders, woman-led organizations and NGOs in general.

Duration of training: 2 days.  

 

Training For Health Professionals on Gender and a Trauma-Sensitive Approach To Patients

Content:

  • Trauma Education
  • Violence against women and its impact on women’s health
  • Basic communication skills related to professional attitudes towards patients
  • Empowerment as a basic professional attitude
  • Principles of self-care and burnout prevention
  • Somatic consequences of violence and Traumatization

Objective: To raise understanding of the relation between gender and violence; to increase knowledge of trauma and reduce re-traumatization.

Target group: female doctors, nurses and midwives working in hospitals or other medical settings.

Duration of training: training cycle with 5 modules of 3 days each over the course of one year. 

 

Training On Communication Skills and Case Management

Content: 

  • Basic communication skills: active listening
  • Verbal communication skills (questioning, summarizing, paraphrasing, reflection)
  • Non-verbal communication
  • The steps of case management plus practical work 

Objective: To sensitize participants in professional communication in their private and professional life, and to reduce re-tramatization.

Target group: counselors, psychologist, various staff of organizations and institutions, medical groups (including doctors, midwives and nurses), teachers, students. Anyone can benefit from such training.

Duration of training: Variable, up to 3 days.

 

Training On Basic Psychosocial Counseling Skills

Content:

  • Definition of counseling
  • Theory and principles of counseling
  • Counseling versus giving advice
  • Confidentiality
  • Self-awareness: Qualities, roles, and ethics of a counselor
  • Process of counseling
  • Basic communication skill
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Violence against women
  • Trauma and re- tramatization

Objective: To develop an empathic approach to traumatized people, especially women and girl survivors of violence, and those who suffer from psychosocial problems; To develop a more professional response through deep consideration of their situation.

Target group: counselors, social workers, health workers, teachers, trainers, lawyers. Duration of training: 15 days theory and practice plus 5 days follow up and on the job training.

Mediation Training For Governmental And Nongovernmental Legal Staff

Content:

  • Family mediation
  • Mediation stages and process
  • Personal inventory of conflict
  • Various forms of conflict
  • Models of Conflict Resolution

Objective: To increase participants` mediation skills.

Target group: Medica Afghanistan lawyers and social workers, staff of legal aid departments of MOJ, mediators and social workers of MOWA, MOLSAMD, WAW, and shelter organizations.

Duration of training: 5 days  

 

Training for Police

Content:

  • EVAW law
  • Rights of suspects and accused
  • Citizens’ fundamental rights
  • Violence against women
  • Communication skills

Objective: To increase access to justice for women by strengthening the close cooperation between the Police and Medica Afghanistan; to sensitize police to victims of domestic violence; to implement enforcement of the EVAW law; to sensitize police staff to respond to needs of family violence survivors, particularly women and girls who have run away.

Target group: Police women and men from Family Response Units (FRUs), crime investigation departments and crime patrolling staff.

Duration of training: 2 days.

 

Training for Prison Personnel

Content:

  • Rights of prisoners and accused in the light of national and international laws
  • Violence against women
  • Communication skills.

Objective: To familiarize prison staff with national and international standards for the fair and professional treatment of women and girls in prison; to sensitize them to interact empathically and professionally with survivors of violence , especially those exhibiting severe physical and psychological problems

Target group: prison/ JRC staff in Kabul, Herat and Mazar.

Duration of training: 2 days

 

Training For Mullahs and Religious Leaders On Registration Of Marriage And Its Relation To Violence Against Women

Content:

  • Legal marriage according to Afghan law and Islam
  • the role of the registration of marriage in decreasing illegal child and forced marriages
  • The relation of forced and child marriages to violence against women, impaired women’s reproductive health, and maternal and infant death.

Objective: To increase legal registration of marriages, and thereby decrease child and forced marriages and violence against women and girls.

Target group: Mullahs, social workers, teachers, students, medical staff, Police, NGO partners, and staff of Ministry of Justice.

Duration of training: 2 days.

 

Training On Peace-Building

Content:

  • Concepts of peace and peace-building
  • Diversity and peace-building
  • Violence and the strategy of nonviolent conflict transformation
  • Working on own conflicts 
  • Communication and dialogue skills
  • Collective trauma. Objective:To build the capacity of women activists and NGO staff on peace-building in society, and to link the elimination of violence against women to peace
